Ivan Ouhel entered the art scene in the early 1970s as a painter perceived primarily as a representative of modern Czech landscape painting. His work related to predecessors such as Jiří John, Josef Šíma or Jan Preisler. Ouhel organized over forty individual exhibitions, and also participated in many group shows. His artistic beginnings from the 1970s are connected with the so-called landart, when he created partially painted objects from Plexiglas, which he placed in nature. Later he also devoted himself to figurative painting. From the second half of the 1980s, Ouhel continued to simplify the compositions of his paintings and set the colors in strong contrasts.
