When we released the first limited-edition print by leading Czech and Slovak artists back in 1996, we had no idea we were starting a tradition that would eventually carve out its own niche in design history. Although Jan Hampl, one of the founders of the project, often says that it all began rather by chance, the reality is simpler: it is the result of dedicated work of everyone involved. By bringing together former CEO Jiří Kejval and the renowned painter of Prague, Karel Chaba, the company (then known as Techo, now Ahrend) began creating original graphic prints that became a signature gift for employees and business partners.

The very first print was created in 1996 by the painter Karel Chaba using the colored drypoint technique. This marked the beginning of the successful Techo Art Collection - a collector's series that, alongside highly valued lithographs, later came to include T-shirts with original prints. Over the past thirty years, the collection has featured an impressive lineup of artists, including Oldřich Kulhánek, Michael Rittstein, Jiří Načeradský, Theodor Pištěk, Jiří Sopko, Jiří Georg Dokoupil, Krištof Kintera, and many others.

"My only regret is that I can no longer talk with some of those who are gone. However, a new generation is stepping in, bringing a modern vision and the drive to keep this project alive for as long as possible. We are already looking forward to selecting next year’s artist together."

Ahrend and the arts

The Techo Art Collection is a core part of the company philosophy, which has guided us since the very beginning. Ahrend (formerly Techo) and the fine arts have always been intertwined. From the moment we started designing and manufacturing furniture for commercial interiors, we have supported art projects that resonate with our values. We have always sought opportunities to connect our work with the world of art, drawing from it valuable inspiration and renewed creative energy.

The first striking example of this connection between Ahrend and the visual arts is visible as soon as you enter our showroom. Right at the entrance, you are welcomed by a large-scale installation by Jiří Beránek, reminiscent of a monumental gateway, alongside a metal sculpture by David Černý. Stepping inside, you enter a world without boundaries, where offices, meeting rooms and an art gallery blend into one vibrant whole. Surrounded by artworks at every turn, this is where you work, relax, and meet with colleagues and guests alike.

Come see for yourself how the presence of art can positively transform the atmosphere of a workspace. Whether you want to boost employee creativity or to create an environment where people feel more connected, productive, and at ease, you will find plenty of inspiration here.
